Students attend Intensive English Institue This is the second year that Mano en Mano has awarded scholarships for Latinos to experience four weeks of intensive English classes at the University of Maine Orono. 5/10/08 2nd Annual Mother's Day Event 5 pm, Milbridge Town Hall Come and share in the celebration of Mothers everywhere. Interpreter's Training Mano en Mano and Language Access for New Americans (LANA) are hosting an Interpreter's Training. This two-day training introduces bilingual individuals and beginning interpreters to the roles of the interpreter, interpreter's Code of Ethics, interpretation techniques and other essential aspects of interpretation. Irene Cortese will be presenting pictures from her recent travels to Latin America and sharing information with the Milbridge Community regarding the Mexican Consulate, Catholic Faith and Education. We are currently receiving online auction donations for our scholarship program. Everyone welcome. 1/15/2008 Home Depot grants $3000.00 to Mano en Mano for Milbridge Youth Soccer Field Project Mano en Mano, the Town of Milbridge and Downeast RC&D are collaborating on the Milbridge Youth Soccer Field Project. 1/15/2008 Mano en Mano is now a Dollars for Scholars Chapter! We have affiliated with Scholarship America to provide academic scholarships for deserving Hispanic students. Scholarship America has awarded us $5000 for scholarships. 1/2/2008 After School Program 2:30-5 pm Mondays and Wednesdays for students in grades K-5. Students in grades 5-12 will continue to come on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 12/6/2007 Tax Workshop 6:30 pm Mano en Mano and Pine Tree Legal Assistance will provide a tax information workshop. The staff will answer tax related questions in preparation for the 2008 tax season. 11/16/2007 English Classes 6:30 pm Mano en Mano now has English as a Second Language Classes. Everyone welcome. 7/2007 Eight students from Mano En Mano will be attending the Intensive English Institute program from mid-June to mid-July. They will spend four weeks at the University of Maine in Orono honing their knowledge of written and spoken English. In cooperation with the Training Development Corporation, Mano En Mano was able to find tuition for all of the interested students. This program is an important first step for these students who are first-generation immigrants and the first ones in their families to consider college.
